Scented Teas

The most famous scented tea is, of course, Jasmine Tea. We have three of them, because we can. In England we encounter it most frequently in Chinese restaurants, often as a foil to the MonoSodium Glutamate in the food.

Jasmine Green Tea is generally created by pressing layers of freshly plucked un-dried camellia leaves between layers of hand-picked jasmine flowers separated by muslin sheets. These are then for around a day after which time the flowers are removed and the tea dried in the normal way.

China Jasmine CHUNG HAO £3.89 per 100g
A phenomenally sweet floral fragrance hits you when you smell the leaves. The green tea flavour is fairly substantial compared to some of the lighter jasmine teas below, which is excellent for everyday drinking. This will rebrew as many as four times.

China Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls £11.99 per 100g: sold in 50g units at £5.99
The top two leaves and a bud, plucked and skillfully rolled by hand to create beautiful little pearls, scented with jasmine. Just pop two or three of these into a cup and pour on the water (off the boil, remember), and then sit back and watch them unfurl before your eyes. You can rebrew them until the refreshing flavour is gone - usually around 6 or 7 brews - and since you only use 1-2 grams per cup (including rebrews) it can work out as low as four pence a cup!

China Jasmine WHITE CLOUDS Silver tea £19.99 per 100g: sold in packs of 50g @ £9.99
One of the best teas we've tasted for a long long time, it turns out you think so too - this was only first on the shop shelf as a seasonal special, but it was so popular we decided to get more and add it onto the list for the forseeable future.
Comprising just the unopened downy buds, skillfully selected as the pick of the crop, this is a light and perfectly balanced jasmine tea, high in antioxidants, low in caffeine.
Food for the soul!
Brew with 75 deg. water for 2-3 minutes, rebrew 8 times.

China WINTERSWEET scented green tea, hand tied £6.50 for 10 triads (i.e. 30 small units, in threes)
Very light in flavour, this is a charming green tea with buds, sweetly scented with wintersweet blossoms, yeilding a soft yet supportive brew. More of an off white colour than a light yellow liquor, it is well worth rebrewing and can be used many times. Furthermore it's practical, because if you just want a cup rather than a pot, simply snip off one of the hand tied units from the other three and brew, or for a pot use all three.

Black Scented Teas

Just as one can impart a scent into a green tea, black teas can also be scented.

China Rose Congou £1.79 per 100g
Black China tea with a taste of roses blended with rose petals.
A particularly good present for Mum - with a lovely balance of rose and tea, good with milk, but equally charming without. This tea goes down a storm in the tearoom at Iford Manor, where our teas are served to the garden visitors.

China Lychee Tea £1.79 per 100g
Yum… lychees! Sweet and orientally mysterious, our Lychee scented black China tea is the perfect accompaniment to a game of chess (and other things too of course).

317 China Lapsang Souchong 100g £2.09 per 100g
Special black China tea with a smoky taste.
There’s a rumour that Lapsang Souchong is very mildly carcinogenic. But then again, so is toast.
The great thing about our Lapsang is that it's based on a light, pure and aromatic china tea which means the strong smoked flavour isn't lost in a medley of overpowering tea-ish-ness: all in all this means it's great without milk (and with for that matter!) and the more refreshing for it.
